Health classes explained

The four tiers explained: Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard—what distinguishes them and what moves you.

Insurance companies use rate classification to price term. Language differs between carriers, but the framework matches: Preferred Plus (sometimes Super/Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard, then surcharges for heightened risk. Smokers occupy a separate framework costing extra.

What underwriters look at

Body mass ratio, BP and lipids, family medical events (heart/cancer before 60), driving history, prescribed medications, profession and interests, and nicotine/tobacco. Top tier demands favorable results throughout; Preferred allows minor issues; Standard Plus/Standard address managed conditions like controlled BP.

How to use the quote tool

On the form's health question, be truthful: Excellent aligns with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus, Average with Standard. Quotes match that bracket; the carrier sets your actual rating in underwriting. When uncertain, quote both brackets and compare. Overstating health doesn't cut your final price; it just makes estimates unreliable.

Susman Insurance Agency specializes in matching you with carriers whose rules work better for your particular situation, often more important than base pricing.
